Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari considers the current government achieved important results in the fight against corruption, while opposition MPs Bogdan Tardea and Vadim Pistrinciuc assert the opposite. The issue was developed in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau cannel, IPN reports.
According to Vladimir Cebotari, the fight against corruption has never reached such proportions in Moldova’s history as in 2016, while healthcare, education and the police are the most affected systems. “There has never been such a fight against corruption as now. According to polls, the phenomenon of corruption this year is perceived in a different way by the population. The Republic of Moldova is the only country that achieved results in investigating the laundering of money that came from Russia. No country took measures, if only a Baltic state where a bank director was dismissed. We witnessed the arrests of many judges and bailiffs who were involved in this scheme. Almost all those who were earlier featured in journalistic investigations now face problems,” stated the minister.
On the other hand, Liberal-Democratic MP Vadim Pistrinciuc said it is actually a simulation of the fight against corruption by which the government wants to impress the citizens. “A lot of these arrests form part of the government’s game to simulate the fight against corruption. This way they try to convince the citizens that there is no corruption in our country. The problem is that most of the citizens do not believe in the success of the government as regards the fight against corruption,” stated the MP.
Socialist MP Bogdan Tardea considers the fight against corruption is fake and the number of citizens who do not trust the state institutions is increasing. “There has never been such a decline as this year. Only 7% of the population trusts justice, as opposed to 34% in 2014. We have an oligarchic system that is in a total crisis. Justice is subordinate. None of the cases started in 2010-2011 over corruption were brought to an end. Half of the members of the current Government were earlier dismissed on suspicions of corruption. The money laundering mechanism continues to work. Almost half of the bills passed by Parliament were negatively appraised by experts of the National Anticorruption Center,” he stated.
