Contest to fill post of ombudsperson is being mimicked, BCS MP

The contest to choose candidates for the post of ombudsperson is being mimicked and its result is clear, said MP of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) Vasile Bolea, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, Vasile Bolea said that in the morning he took part in a preliminary meeting of the human rights and interethnic relations commission and the legal commission for appointments and immunities, in which the questions and criteria for assessing the candidates for ombudsperson were to be agreed. The developments related to this contest are mimicked. Two candidates are expected to be proposed to Parliament – a person who is related to an MP and, probably, a representative of the diaspora. The ombudswoman for children’s rights Maia Bănărescu, who also holds the post of ombudsperson on an interim basis, is the first favored candidate. The second candidate will be either lawyer Violeta Gașițoi or lawyer Natalia Moloșag. Most probably, the balance will be inclined in favor of Violeta Gașițoi. “The competing male candidates have no chance as the die is cast,” stated Vasile Bolea.

He noted that what was done today in the joint meeting of the two commissions was a farce. The questions proposed by BCS for being put to the candidates weren’t accepted. Only the questions formulated by representatives of the ruling party were accepted and many of these questions favor one candidate - Maia Bănărescu.

Vasile Bolea also said that this contest is important for the next stage so that the government can dismiss the prosecutor general and name a pocket prosecutor general and has additional influence in the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

The chairman of the human rights and interethnic relations commission Grigore Novac, BCS MP, said they wanted this contest to be genuine, not a mimicked one. For him, it is important that the best of the nine candidates is chosen. Regrettably, the opposition MPs weren’t heard. Moldova and the state institutions step by step are brought under control and the goal of this mimicked contest is to exert additional influence in the Superior Council of Prosecutors.

The interview stage of the contest to fill the post of ombudsperson is held today. The nine candidates are: Maia Bănărescu, Andrei Brighidin, Teodor Cârnaț, Violeta Gașițoi, Natalia Moloșag, Dumitru Pulbere, Nicolae Rădița, Ivan Roșca, and Ivan Ungureanu.
