The construction of the new United States Embassy building on the site of the former Republican Stadium has been declared a public utility of national interest. Parliament has voted in its final reading on the bill establishing this status, IPN reports.
As a result, all necessary assets for the execution of the U.S. Embassy construction in Chisinau will be expropriated. This includes buildings, whether unfinished, temporary, or attached structures, located on the land designated for the new embassy, as well as real rights and other patrimonial rights over this land.
The United States Government will cover the costs of compensation and expropriation expenses. Additionally, the U.S. Embassy will independently develop a detailed urban planning plan, which will be used to obtain the urban planning certificate for design purposes.
The 5.2-hectare plot on Tighina Street was sold to the U.S. for €18 million. The site will house the U.S. diplomatic campus, with the American Embassy also committing to the creation of parks and public spaces. The total investment is estimated to be approximately $250 million.
