The conflict between Chisinau and Tiraspol is ridiculous from all viewpoints. Any politician and leader realize well that a conflict in 1992 existed between the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation, ex-member of the Joint Control Commission Ion Leahu stated in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
“Today the regime in Tiraspol, as earlier, is a marionette managed by Moscow and this is not independent and free in taking decisions,” stated Ion Leahu.
As to the assertion that military conflicts in Transnistria between Russia and NATO are possible, made by Russian expert on security issues Alexey Fenenko, Ion Leahu said the expert warns that this conflict could be between Russia and NATO because Moldova, from Russia’s viewpoint, is a republic with a regime that more evidently slides to NATO. “Currently, Moscow is the one that reached the conclusion that the situation degenerated into a conflict,” said the colonel.
Historian and analyst Ruslan Shevchenko said this statement made by the Russian expert is a response to the Moldovan government’s request to withdraw the Russian troops from the territory of the Transnistrian region. This is done to explain the necessity of keeping the Russian contingent and to convince everyone that the Republic of Moldova prepares a military conflict and Russia will have to riposte and that the war is inevitable.
