Conclusions of Council of EU are like a cold shower for authorities, opinion

The conclusions of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union are like a cold shower for the Moldovan authorities. At the same time, these conclusions show that the current political power is supported for its actions in relation to the Russian Federation. The subject was developed in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

Jurist Pavel Midrigan said the conclusions of the Council of the EU for the Moldovan authorities are like a cold shower, but the European officials offered them one more chance. The essence of these conclusions resides in the fact that the current power should be maintained so as to prevent the coming of pro-Eastern forces to power. “The European Union cannot allow something like this,” stated Pavel Midrigan.

Journalist Valerii Demidetskii said the current power is supported for its actions in related to the Russian Federation. “Maybe it does not want to do this, but given the international situation, the competition and the conflict between the West and Russia, we will have to match this model,” he stated.

Political analyst Anatol Taranu said that what happened in 2014-2015 destroyed the expectations of Moldova as a “success story” of the Eastern Partnership. “And now Brussels reviewed rather seriously its behavior towards Moldova. Currently, the policy pursued by Brussels in relation to Chisinau is based on the principle: if there are reforms, there is money and if reforms are not done, money will not come,” stated Anatol Taranu.

The Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union on February 26 reaffirmed its support for the Republic of Moldova, but underlined that this support depends on the implementation of real reforms, especially in the corruption fighting, justice and economic sectors.
