Comrat opens 11 electoral bureaus for February 2 referenda

The authorities in the Gagauz capital decided to open 11 electoral bureaus for the referenda planned on February 2. As the online publication gagauzinfo.md reported, the bureaus have already been staffed.

At the consultative referendum on the country's foreign course, voters will be given two ballots. On the first, in pink color, voters will be asked to answer with yes or no to the following question: “Do you agree with the choice of the course of foreign development for the Republic of Moldova oriented towards integration into the European Union?”. The second ballot, coming in deep green, will contain the question: “Do you agree with the choice of the course of foreign development for the Republic of Moldova oriented towards integration into the Customs Union (Russia-Belarus-Kazakhstan)?”.

The second referendum, to be held on the same day, is legislative and coming with a yellow ballot that contains the question: “Do you consent to the adoption of a law by the Gagauz Autonomy allowing the people of Gagauzia to exercise their right to external self-determination if the independent status of the Republic of Moldova changes?”.

The Prosecutor General's Office has initiated criminal proceedings on charges of “arbitrary action” in response to the Gagauz's parliament decision to hold the referenda even after it was found by the Comrat Court as falling outside the local parliament's authority.
