Between August 2023 and June 2024, Members of Parliament in Moldova earned an average monthly salary of 19,000 lei. In addition to this, they received non-taxable compensatory payments, including a transport allowance amounting to 10,000 lei, as well as funds for housing rentals, protocol expenses, and promotional activities, IPN reports.
The Promo-LEX Association analyzed data from the Parliamentary Secretariat, noting that starting in September 2023, the monthly non-taxable transport allowance increased from 6,500 lei to 10,000 lei.
"A comparative analysis of the data shows a 1.5-fold increase in total expenses allocated for transport, reaching 8.5 million lei during the analyzed period, compared to 5.5 million lei for the previous period", stated Promo-LEX.
All 101 deputies benefited from this allowance, either fully or partially.
"Unfortunately, three years after the first monitoring report, verifying the transparency of transport expenses remains impossible, as there is no regulation governing deputies' travel within the country, nor is there any record of such travels", Promo-LEX added.
The monthly non-taxable allowance for housing rentals has doubled, reaching 6,600 lei. Total expenses allocated for housing rentals more than doubled as well, amounting to 1.7 million lei for the August 2023-June 2024 period. This benefit was used by 22 deputies.
The monthly non-taxable compensation for expenses related to official duties, protocol activities, and promotional efforts is capped at 13,000 lei. The total expenses allocated for this purpose remained consistent with the previous monitoring period, amounting to 12.8 million lei. Most deputies received the maximum monthly allocation of 13,000 lei.
