Communists request explanations on Romanian Ambassador's language statement

The Communist group has requested that Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca appear before Parliament to provide explanations on Romanian Ambassador Marius Lazurca's statement that Moldova and Romania speak the same language, and namely Romanian. MP Sergiu Stati in particular said that the diplomat made statements that are incompatible with his position when he spoke about the Romanian language and unification. In reply, Liberal Mihai Ghimpu told the Communists to stop speculating, suggesting that the Ambassador rather meant integration into the EU when he mentioned unification. “You'd rather switch your attention to the Russians who continue to keep their troops and munitions within our territory. It's not the word that kills, it's the weapon”. As hearing a minister in Parliament outside the procedure known as the Government's Hour requires a special vote, the Communists attempted to obtain it, unsuccessfully. Marius Lazurca stated in a recent TV program that the Language spoken in Moldova is Romanian and the entire intellectual elite recognizes this.
