Communists maintain electoral pole position

The rating of the communist party and of the president Vladimir Voronin continues to dominate the list of electoral preferences in the Republic of Moldova, according to the “Public Opinion Barometer”. If the next Sunday elections would take place according to the opinion poll 67% of the population would vote for the Communists’ Party, comparing to 62% of the previous year and to 53% in December 2005. The Communists’ Party is followed by the People’s Christian Party for which 8% of the population would vote. The rating is down by 4% comparing to the previous year. Further the option of the population can be presented as follows: Our Moldova Alliance and the Democrat party – 6% each and the Social Liberal Party and the Social Democrat – 5 % and 4%. Questioned what is the politic personality they trust or trust very much 55,5% gave their option for Vladimir Voronin comparing to 47% from December 2005. Almost 38% do not trust the president and nearly 2% did not hear about him. The second person on this list is Vasile Tarlev, 44% of the respondents trust him comparing to 37% from December 2005. Marian Lupu gets the credit of near 1/3 of the respondents and Serafim Urecheanu - 21%, his rating declining by 7%. If the next Sunday would be organized elections, 48% of the respondents would participate, down by 4% comparing to December 2005, 26% answered “probably yes” and 9% would not participate at the elections. The opinion poll was performed in the period March 25 April 2006. 1506 persons from 99 localities, excepting the Transnistrian region, were questioned. The survey was organized by the CIVIS Centre and administrated by the Public Politics Institute with the support of Soros Foundation – Moldova.
