Communists initiate referendum for October 21

The Party of Communists (PCRM) put forward the initiative of holding a consultative referendum to show that the people do not trust the present administration, MP Artur Reshetnikov has told Info-Prim Neo. “On March 31, the Civic Congress held in Balti decided to organize a referendum with the question: Do you trust the current Parliament?. The over 1,400 representatives from all the country’s districts, including the Transnistrian region, took part in the Congress and elected the Bureau of the Initiative Group that will be headed by Valentin Todercan (ex-president of the National Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova” – e.n.),” said Artur Reshetnikov. The Communists plan to submit the documents for registering the initiative to the Central Election Commission and to start collecting signatures in favor of the referendum. Under the legislation, at least 200,000 signatures of people eligible to vote are needed for holding a plebiscite. The PCRM has boycotted the Parliament’s sittings since the start of the spring-summer session. The members of the party accuse the government of usurpation of power.
