Communists demand holding Marian Lupu responsible
The Communist Party Wednesday requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to take legal action over the falsification of the presidential elections and usurpation of power, and to hold Marian Lupu accountable for these offenses, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Communist MP Sergiu Sirbu, who lodged the application with the Prosecutor General’s Office, said that Marian Lupu is responsible for the falsification of the elections as he obliged the lawmakers to show how they voted in the December 16 elections. Therefore, the Constitutional Court invalidated the elections. Sergiu Sirbu also said that all the MPs who showed the ballots might be held accountable for rigging the elections.
According to the Communists, Marian Lupu is to blame for the usurpation of power because, as Acting President, he did not take steps to dissolve Parliament, which found no solution to elect the head of state.
Under the Penal Code, the punishment for vote rigging is up to six years in jail, while for the usurpation of power – 15 to 25 years in prison, said Sergiu Sirbu.
The Constitutional Court declared the December 16 elections unconstitutional, arguing the confidentially of the vote was violated. Earlier, the Alliance for European Integration announced it will hold a constitutional referendum in order to simplify the procedure for electing the head of state.
