Communists’ actions are aimed at hampering European integration, Iurie Leanca

The actions taken by the Communists are aimed at hampering the European integration of Moldova and the steps that are to be taken by the Vilnius Summit, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said in the program “Moldova live” on the national TV channel Moldova 1. On October 17, Parliament examined a censure motion against the Government, put forward by the Communist MPs, IPN reports.

Iurie Leanca stated that by these acts, including the protests staged by the Communists, the opposition shows that it does not want a result, but is interested in making Moldova deviate from the set objectives. “The Communists want to involve us in a cheap political show that does not have a clear goal and are trying to prevent us from not focusing on what counts today – the needs and problems of the people,” he said.

He also said that the arguments provided by the Communists for submitting the censure motion are illogical. He criticized the period of Communist government. “What kind of Moldova was then? It was a divided and authoritarian country with an enormous budget deficit that wasn’t trusted by the people and by the partners from Brussels and Moscow. Despite the problems and dissatisfaction, the progress is now evident. We are a more open and tolerant society,” stated Iurie Leanca.

He underlined he would like the Communist lawmakers to show that they want to help the government by identifying the problems faced by the people, not by rejoicing when problems appear. “They are an irresponsible force that takes us backward, not forward,” said the Premier, referring to the Communists’ behavior.

The censure motion against the Leanca Government didn’t gather the necessary number of votes. However, the Communists tabled a new censure motion that will be examined next Thursday.
