Communist MP Sergiu Stati is the new ambassador to Ukraine

The Government approved on Wednesday, October 25, the appointment of the communist MP, Sergiu Stati as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine. Stati was until now the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs and European Integration. At the same time the Government approved calling back Mihail Laur, the former ambassador and canceling the second office of Ambassador of Moldova to Georgia held simultaneously. According to Vasile Tarlev’s statements, the new ambassador will have to intensify actions related to the settlement of a series of issues with the neighbor country, especially the ones referring to the cargo transports that are taxed, the proper functioning of the railways system etc. As well, the head of the Government said that Moldova did not turn to good account all the possibilities in its relations with Ukraine, specifying that he does not mean only economic-commercial relations. “We are searching for new markets, but we do not turn to good account the foreign potential, especially in the case of Ukraine which has 47 mln inhabitants”, PM Vasile Tarlev declared, cited by Info-Prim Neo.
