The Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities endorsed a bill proposed by the Liberal-Democrats, by which the post of First Deputy Head of Parliament is excluded and the procedure for dismissing the Deputy Speakers is modified, Info-Prim Neo reports. Liberal-democratic MP Valeriu Strelet, one of the authors of the initiative, said they aim to amend the Parliament’s Regulations. “The Head of Parliament remains the authority that can initiate the dismissal of the Deputy Speakers, but there is added the initiative of the faction that proposed him or 1/3 of the MPs,” he stated. As regards the proposal to exclude the post of First Deputy Head of Parliament, Democratic MP Adrian Candu said the Constitutional Court never said that this post is illegal. “This bill does not provide transitional and final stages. What will happen to Vlad Plahotniuc if this bill is passed? By liquidating this post, you take a post from the Democratic Party,” he said. The authors said they can add an article that will stipulate that the position of First Deputy Speaker is transformed into that of Deputy Speaker after the adoption of the bill, while the current First Deputy Head of Parliament Vlad Plahotniuc should become Deputy Speaker. The bill was approved by the votes of seven Communist and Liberal-Democratic MPs. The post of First Deputy Head of Parliament was instituted by the Communists in 2009. Vladimir Turcan was the first who held this seat. When the AEI came to power, the post was taken up by the chairman of the “Moldova Noastra” Alliance Serafim Urecheanu. Since 2010, this position has been occupied by Vlad Plahotniuc.
