Combatants organize patriotic-sports contest “Say no to war!”
The National Union of the Veterans of the War for Moldova’s Independence organizes, on 18-20 August, in Vadul lui Voda, the traditional patriotic-sports competition “Say no to war!”
The Union’s chairman Eduard Maican says that this year the events are dedicated to the celebration of Moldova’s 15 years of independence and aims at educating and promote peace, the conciliation spirit and patriotism among people, as well as the healthy lifestyle.
The sports competition includes volleyball, wrestle, arm wrestling, weight lifting, and chess. About 22 teams of the majority of the republic’s raions announced their participation.
According to Eduard Maican, The National Union of the Veterans of the War for Moldova’s Independence also seeks sponsors for organizing the competition. OSCE Mission secured the expenses for participants’ meals. A letter regarding the allocation of 90,000 lei was addressed to the Government, left without any response yet. At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Youth committed itself to provide money awards to winners.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for August 18, at 13:30.
