The National Health Insurance Company (CNAM) will cover the costs for individual prostheses and consumables needed for the surgical and prosthetic rehabilitation of the patients with a partial or total defect of the eyeball. A decision to this effect was taken by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco, the decision is aimed at eliminating an inequity between patients. Until now, only a category of patients received coverage from the mandatory health insurance. These were the persons suffering from cancer. Now the costs will be covered regardless of the type of disease.
About 100 ocular prosthesis operations are annually performed in Moldova. The cost of a prosthesis is 3,000 lei on average.
