Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) sent for re-examination the decision draft, which will offer to certain businessmen the rights to reconstruct, on their account, some districts of Chisinau, including the Stefan cel Mare, Bucuresti, Ismail and Ciuflea streets area. The businessmen were obliged to invest 300 million lei in modernizing zone’s infrastructure, in building apartment blocks, and later to recover the costs by selling the apartments. In this context, the businessmen acquired the right to demolish the old buildings that have no historic value and are to comply with certain commitments while evacuating about 400 families. Project’s author Anatol Gordeev, the director of Architecture Academy, as well presented additional information to the municipal counselors, according to which was planned the construction of a kindergarten, a pre-school, a postal office and a bank, as well as preserving the vocational school nr 1. In Gordeev’s opinion, the priority of this project is the fact it plans to modernize great spaces already occupied, practically in the center of the city, and does not require free lands, as other construction companies. The proposal to send the draft for re-examination was made by the Communist Party faction from CMC, after requiring a break of 10 minutes, being supported by Social – Democrat Faction. The districts proposed for reconstruction are located outside the historic zone of the city.
