CMC adjourned increasing public transport tariffs
Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) postponed on Thursday, 13 April, discussing the tariff for public transport of the capital. The decision was adopted as reaction to proposal of independent councilor Ion Mamaliga to examine this issue at one of the next meetings, together with the Capital Public Transport Development Strategy.
Mamaliga noted that it has to be discussed the methodology of establishing the transport tariff, as well as a regulation for public transport.
Three municipal commissions approved a recommendation for CMC in order to increase the tariffs for trolleybus to 1.5 lei, and for the bus to 2 lei.
Until now, the problem of increasing tariffs to all types of passenger transport was discussed repeatedly, but it solving was always postponed. A part of councilors motivated their behavior as concern for spending public money; the other part saw in this a political subtext, blaming their colleagues of populism and incapacity to assume the responsibility for taken decisions from political point of view. According to legislation in effect, the decisions regarding the tariffs can be taken exclusively by CMC.
