The Chisinau City Hall, the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration and a number of NGOs with expertise in urban design and related areas decided to constitute the Urban Civic Forum as a civic platform active in urban design.
Maria Axenti, the representative of the Urbanism Center, in a news conference at IPN said the Urban Civic Forum is designed to build a high-quality dialogue between the interested sides and players involved in urban design.
“The Urban Civic Forum aims to work permanently to provide an open, multidisciplinary forum for free expression, alongside the civic attitude active in the field of urban design. The Urban Civic Forum also aims to promote urbanism as a cultural area of multidisciplinary interaction. For the purpose, the Forum assumes the role of catalyst of the ideas and views on sustainable urban development and will bring these into the focus of the public and decision makers,” stated Maria Axenti.
The Forum will also disseminate knowledge, experience and good practices in the field of urbanism in order to extend the number of those interested in promoting sustainable urban development. The forum is open to those interested, representatives of professional and creation associations, private sector, research community and administrative divisions of all levels.
The Forum is helped to promote the culture of sustainable urbanism by such foreign expert institutions as EPURES Urbanism Agency, the Urban Planning Agency of Saint-Etienne, the Urban Planning and Architecture Forum of Nice, the National School of Architecture of Saint-Etienne, IHS Romania and others.
The civic platform was constituted within the urban forum “Urbanism and Sustainable Development of Chisinau” that was held in Chisinau during April 20-21, organized by the Embassy of France in Moldova.
