Citizens who disclose how they voted risk fines of up to 1,500 lei

Voters who photograph, show or publish the marked ballot paper face a penalty in the form of a warning or even a fine of 600 to 1,500 lei, IPN reports.

Also, those who take the ballot paper given to them to vote out of the polling station without permission or transmit the ballot paper to a third person risk fines of 2,500 to 7,500 lei.

“We have been notified of a number of cases when ballots with the voter’s option were posted in the public space. We remind that such manifestations are penalized and I call on both our colleagues from polling stations and the citizens not to breach voting secrecy, not to exhibit the marked ballot paper. Each time, the initiation of contravention proceedings against those who commit this illegality, will be requested,” warned the head of the Central Election Commission Angelica Caraman.
