Citizens are entitled to request compensatory payments for shares obtained during the privatizations of the 1990s. Financial resources resulting from the mandatory buyouts of shares acquired by citizens through patrimonial vouchers, or from the liquidation of investment funds, which were not claimed by shareholders, are accumulated in the Investor Compensation Fund. As of December 1, 2024, the Compensation Fund has amassed approximately 50 million lei, according to information provided by IPN, referencing the National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF).
According to CNPF data, as of November 1, 2024, more than 30,000 former shareholders of 87 joint-stock companies, which underwent the buyout procedure and have yet to claim their due payments, are eligible to receive financial resources from the Investor Compensation Fund.
In addition to the monetary claims of former minority shareholders affected by the mandatory buyout procedure, the CNPF also manages and disburses payments to former shareholders of investment funds that have completed the liquidation process.
Between August 1, 2023, and November 1, 2024, the CNPF disbursed over 209,000 lei from the Compensation Fund to former shareholders of the aforementioned entities. During this period, 65 former minority shareholders, all private individuals, benefited from these compensations.
