Over 2 million packs of cigarettes and four vehicles used to transport these were impounded during a raid carried out in a smuggling case. The cigarettes were to reach the United Arab Emirates. The prosecutors asked to confiscate the tobacco products to the value of about 6 million lei, IPN reports.
The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases said the case involves a business entity operating on the left side of the Nistru and a customs broker.
The investigations will be continued to determine all the circumstances of the case, including all the involved persons.
The cigarette smuggling schemes are one of the major focuses of the anticorruption bodies on the EU’s border with the Republic of Moldova.
