Two men aged 33 and 28from the municipality of Chisinau tried to cross the Moldovan-Romanian border by a motor delthaplane, conveying 2,500 packs of cigarettes, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Customs Service.
It happened not far from Taxobeni village of Falesti district, about 3 km from the border. The border guards caught the two men in the act of loading the parcels with cigarettes onto the flying vehicle. The men attempted to hide with a car with a license number of Ungheni, but did not manage to.
Besides the deltaplane and car, at the scene there was a trailer by which the flying vehicle was transported from Chisinau. The parcels prepared for the flight included 2,500 packs of cigarettes. One of the men told the border guards he attended an aeronautics club in Chisinau, where he learned to fly the deltaplane.
This May, a man died in a deltaplane accident near the border area Galati. He lost his life when he fell from the deltaplane that crashed, from a height of about 400 meters. There were found about 20 packs of cigarettes made in Moldova within an area of 200 meters of the place of the accident.
