Christmas traditions: caroling, feasting and gift-giving

Caroling, gift-giving and preparing the festive table are among the most widespread and well-known Christmas traditions.

Caroling is one of the oldest traditions that is still observed today. Children, young people and even adults go from house to house to carol. Carols are traditional songs that proclaim the Nativity.

Since ancient times, housewives have been baking Christmas carols. These are in the shape of a figure 8, with the arms hanging down. They are held to the icon until the plows come out.

Over time, several folk traditions and customs have developed, not all of them with a Christian basis. According to some beliefs, there should be 12 different dishes on the Christmas table, symbolizing the 12 months of the year and the apostles who followed Jesus Christ. At Christmas, there is no house without meat dishes, poultry dishes and cold meats.

There is a belief that on Christmas Day, birds and animals must be fed to the full so that they will be healthy throughout the year and produce more eggs, milk and wool.
