Chisinau woman splashed with acid by order of ex-boyfriend

The police arrested two suspects in the case of the 29-year-old woman from Rascani district of Chisinau, who died in the hospital after she was splashed with acid on the face. These are her ex-boyfriend and his friend. The crime was committed out of jealousy, IPN reports.

In a news conference on December 5, the head of the Rascani Police Inspectorate Lilian Pascaru said that the former boyfriend found out on a social networking site that the young woman had been on vacation in Dubai and intended to go there to work at a hotel. This fact infuriated him.

Prosecutor of Rascani Igor Popa said that the ex-boyfriend, together with a friend of his, followed the woman during over two weeks. The man promised a reward of US$1,000 to his friend if he splashed the girl with acid.

On December 2, the culprit waited for the victim on the landing and put his plan into practice. He wore gloves and a mask. The two admitted their guilt, but said that they didn’t intent to kill the young woman, as they wanted just to scare her, and the acid was to be splashed onto the clothes, not on the face.

The former boyfriend and his friend are investigated for deliberate murder committed with special cruelty and face even life imprisonment. The two are aged 31 and 33.
