Chisinau to host Central European Initiative event

The Moldovan Parliament will host on Monday, November 27, the next meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Parliamentary Dimension of the Central European Initiative (CEI). Numerous parliamentarians from the 16 CEI member countries will discuss European integration matters and sustainable development of the CEI region

The meeting will be opened by Moldova’s Speaker Igor Grosu, CEI Secretary General Roberto Antonione, and Igor Chiriac, the interim chairperson of the CEI Parliamentary Dimension.

The three general committees of the Parliamentary Assembly will also come together on Monday. These are the General Committee for Political and Internal Affairs, the General Committee for Economic Affairs and the General Committee for Cultural Affairs. The discussions will culminate with a final document being adopted.

Moldova has been a member of the Central European Initiative since 1996. In 2023, Moldova holds the presidency of the Central European Initiative. The oldest and largest intergovernmental forum for regional cooperation in Central Europe, the CEI promotes political, economic, cultural and scientific cooperation between the member states.

The CEI’s political cooperation objective is to offer countries and their institutions a flexible platform for regional cooperation, while also focusing on their preparation for future accession to the European Union.
