Singers and orchestras from ten countries will take part in the 25th International Festival “Days of New Music” that will be held in Chisinau on June 4-12. Twelve concerts will be given at the Organ Hall, the National Philharmonic, the Zemstvei Museum and other locations in Chisinau in the period. The event is organized by the Union of Composers and Musicologists of Moldova, IPN reports.
In a news conference, the organizers said entrance to the concerts will be free. The festival is aimed at familiarizing the specialists and general public with the values of contemporary music and to internationalize the pieces of music produced in Moldova. This year’s festival will involve singers and orchestras from Romania, Spain, the UK, Russia, Israel, Italy, Canada, Germany, Poland, and Moldova.
The festival’s founding director Gennady Ciobanu said the program of the event is divided into three categories. The first refers to music dedicated to countries, the second renders homage to great composers, while the third includes joint concerts where the works of national composers will be performed together with works of foreign composers.
The festival opens on June 4 at the Organ Hall, where the chamber orchestra of Poland will give a concert of contemporary Polish music, starting at 6pm.
The organizers said that participants from 40 countries took part in the International Festival “Days of New Music” during the 25 years of its foundation. There were held over 350 concerts and presented more than 1,000 musical works.
