Chisinau seeks solutions to Moscow's decision not to extend permits for Moldovan transporters

The government is seeking solutions to protect the interests of economic agents affected by the decision of Moscow's Ministry of Transport not to extend the validity of permits from the 2024 quota for Moldova until January 31, 2025, IPN reports.

"This matter is under review, and the government is looking for a solution to defend the interests of Moldova's economic agents," stated Prime Minister Dorin Recean in response to journalists' questions.

According to the National Road Transport Agency (ANTA), Moldovan transport operators engaged in international freight transport within Russia have raised concerns about the rejection of single permits valid for 2024 at Russian customs points. This issue was flagged to the Federal Customs Service representatives.

Moldovan vehicles have been stopped by customs inspectors because, as per a notification from the Russian Ministry of Transport, Moldova is not on the list of countries for which the validity of 2024 permits has been extended until January 31, 2025.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development has sent a request to the Russian Ministry of Transport seeking urgent clarification regarding compliance with the Agreement between the Governments of Moldova and Russia on international road transport. This agreement stipulates that permits issued during a given year remain valid until January 31 of the following year. Additionally, a request was made regarding the 2025 quota of Russian permits, which has yet to be received.

According to ANTA, active dialogue is ongoing with Moldova's Embassy in Russia, which is providing support to facilitate communication with Russian authorities.

ANTA advises transport operators to avoid planning trips to Russian territory until the issue is resolved.
