Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov called on the Transnistrian administration to give up obliging the Moldovan drivers to purchase vehicle insurance for entering the region, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Reintegration Office says the Deputy Prime Minister sent a letter to the political representative of Tiraspol, saying this measure was adopted without discussing it with the partners and runs counter to the principles and procedures of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format and to the fundamental documents negotiated.
Victor Osipov suggested postponing the implementation of this mechanism that affects the people’s interests and the sides’ commitment to ensure the free movement between the two banks of the Nistru River. He called upon Tiraspol to comprehend the damage caused by its unilateral actions and to continue to examine the problem at the negotiating table.
From April 1, the units of transport registered in Moldova must have Transnistrian automobile insurance for being allowed to enter the Transnistrian region. This measure started to be applied in respect of Romanian drivers on March 1. Over the next few months, it will extend to the drivers from Ukraine and other states.
