Chisinau Parliament to thank European Parliament for supporting Moldova

The Commission for foreign policy and European integration will draw up a message to thank the EMPs for a statement related to Moldova adopted by them. This proposal came from MP Vlad Filat, who stated that the Moldovan MPs that participated in the meeting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg last week felt satisfaction that Moldova is not left alone and the EP is not indifferent to it. According to the MP, “the Moldovan Parliament has adopted different statements, took attitudes towards different events, and it would be right to deliver a statement or message of greeting and gratitude to the EMPs for their stance regarding Moldova”. Speaker Marian Lupu requested from the Commission for foreign policy and European integration to formulate the message for the European colleagues as a response to the statement discussed and approved by the EU Parliament. One week ago, the EU Parliament adopted a statement calling on Russia to fulfill its obligations internationally assumed to withdraw its troops and arms from the territory of Moldova. The EMPs condemned the Transnistria’s attempt to obtain independence unilaterally, organizing a so-called referendum, and calling on Russia’s Government to abstain from its recognition. The European Parliament also called on all the sides involved in the conflict to abstain from actions that would increase tension in the region and to urgently return to the “5+2” talks.
