The Chisinau-Iași (Socola) passenger train started to burn while at the station in Sipoteni village of Călărași district on Thursday morning. About 70 persons were evacuated from railcars. No one was hurt, IPN reports.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said the fire started in the engine section. Two rescue and firefighting teams were on the scene immediately. They managed to extinguish the fire in about 15 minutes. The railcars weren’t damaged.
The cause and circumstances of the fire are yet to be found out.
