Chișinău has not yet had "direct contacts" with the new US administration

Moldovan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mihai Popșoi, stated that Moldovan authorities have not yet had “direct” contacts with the new administration in Washington, reports IPN.

The statement was made by the Moldovan minister in an interview with the BBC. “There have been no direct contacts yet, but we are communicating. If we refer to contacts with members of Congress—those have existed, but with government representatives, not yet,” the minister clarified.

He recalled his visit to Washington in November-December 2024, but at that time, the new American government had not yet officially taken office.

According to Mihai Popșoi, all of Chișinău’s contacts in Washington “have always been bipartisan.”

“We have met with both representatives of the Democratic Party, who were in power, and with the opposition, the Republicans, as is normal and customary in democratic countries. Therefore, we have good contacts with representatives of the Republican Party, and we hope to establish direct contacts with representatives of the new administration in the near future,” Popșoi said in his interview with the British broadcaster.
