Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) approved on Thursday, 13 April, the appointment of the councilor Veaceslav Iordan as Capital’s deputy mayor. Iordan was elected with 36 votes, being endorsed by the Communist Party faction, which he represents, by the Christian Democratic Poeople’s Party (PPCD), Social Democrat faction and independent councilors. Municipal councilor Andrei Cojocaru, representing the Alliance „Moldova Noastra” (AMN), declared before the voting process began that AMN would abstain from voting, considering that there is no vacant position for one more deputy mayor. He stressed that CMC should reappoint as deputy mayor Mihai Furtuna. This issue was included in the meeting agenda, as a result of the complaint addressed by the Governmental Territorial Office, which considered illegal Furtuna’s dismissal, at the beginning of the year, when he was on sick leave. The leader of Social-Democrat faction, Ilia Bagdosarov, proposed to appoint the new deputy mayor while approving the new structure of the general mayor staff. Interim general mayor Vasile Ursu, who nominated Veaceslav Iordan for deputy, noted that there are a lot of problems to be solved in the municipality, thus a new deputy mayor is needed. Iordan is the third deputy mayor from Communist Party. Previously CMC appointed communists Fiodor Negru and Petru Svet on similar positions. At the moment, Veaceslav Iordan is the general vice-director of the “Railways of Moldova” Enterprise. Iordan will be responsible for matters regarding communal services. The legislation in effect stipulates 4 deputy mayor positions of the Chisinau municipality.
