The authorities in Chisinau express their concern about the serious and systematic human rights violations committed in the Transnistrian region as a result of abuses to which representatives of the unconstitutional bodies resort. In a statement issued on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, the Bureau for Reintegration Policies demands to immediately and unconditionally set free the persons who are held illegally by the self-styled Transnistrian authorities, IPN reports.

“On December 10, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day, we marked out constant commitment to promote and defend the basic human rights. On this important day, we reflect on the made progress and on the persisting challenges faced by the communities, including those in the Transnistrian region, as regards the observance of human rights,” stated the Bureau.

According to the institution, despite the efforts made by the constitutional authorities and the repeated calls to Tiraspol to renounce any measure that violates the human rights and to eliminate the noxious practices, particular actions that negatively affect the inhabitants of this region of the country persist.

“We remind with seruosiness of the necessity of respecting the basic human rights, including the right to life, the freedom of movement, the freedom of expression, the freedom of association, the right to a fair trial, the right to education, etc.”, the Bureau noted in a press release.

In a report, Promo-LEX Association says that the right to liberty and security of person in the Transnistrian region is systemically violated and this is confirmed by the multiple ECHR convictions. By November 30, 2023, the European Court of Human Rights ascertained the violation of Article 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights in 25 out of 50 judgments passed in cases that refer to human rights violations in the Transnistrian region. As a result of systemic monitoring the past few years, Promo-LEX determined that the liberty and security of person has been periodically violated. Changes in the so-called local judicial system have been witnessed in the course of this year.
