The Chisinau councilors will come together for a meeting on May 30 to agree a candidate who will fulfill the duties of mayor general. Some councilors are skeptical about the chances of finding a person who would agree to assume responsibility. The issue was developed in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
Liberal councilor Ion Cebanu said their group on the Chisinau Council is ready to reach a consensus as to the person who will perform the duties of the Council secretary, who will replace the mayor general while this is under house arrest. “We count on the good faith of the councilors,” he stated.
Ruslan Codreanu, head of the PPEM group on the Council, noted that the local councilors will have to support those who will assume responsibility. “The situation in the Chisinau City Hall will possibly last. In the current conditions, the person who will accept to replace the mayor will have to gain the people’s confidence, while we, the councilors, are obliged to help this person,” he said.
Ex-Liberal councilor Oleg Cernei said there are few chances for the Chisinau Council to identify a person who will serve as secretary when there is so huge pressure on the part of society and fear of the National Anticorruption Center. A solution is for the Council to make an approach and ask that deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu should be freed under judicial control so that this could fulfill his duties at the City Hall.
The head of the Socialist group Ion Ceban on a social networking site wrote that he will make public the decision of the Socialists in a press briefing in the morning of May 30.
The Chisinau City Hall remained without administration after deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu and mayor general Dorin Chirtoaca were placed under house arrest, while the Chisinau Council’s secretary Valeriu Didencu was remanded in custody for 30 days.
