The Faction of the Party of Communists in the Chisinau Municipal Council said it passed into total opposition and would only monitor the activity of the Mayor General and of the Council. Such a statement was made on Thursday, June 28, at the first meeting of the newly elected CMC. According to the statement, PCRM recognises the results of the local elections of June 3 and 17 for CMC and for Mayor General. At the same time, the party assures its voters that it will do their best so as not to deceive their expectations. The results of the election proved that PCRM remains the strongest political party with the largest faction in CMC, the statements says. It is clear that the vote was politically-based rather than grounded on professionalism and competence in administrating Chisinau. Regretfully, the Party of Communists has focused on solving the problems of the municipality and paid little attention to the political aspect, communication with the residents of Chisinau, with media, leaving room for speculations from the political competitors, who took advantage of this fact, coming in front of the voters with populist messages and unrealisable promises. The PCRM faction says that because of the fact that it will not be able to fulfil its election platform, it passes into total opposition, which means that it will not negotiate the build up of alliances and will not ally itself with other political forces present in the CMC. Also, it will not accept high-ranking offices in the Council or in the City Hall, in order to let the other forces and the mayor to fulfil their election platform. At the same time, it will not forget the options and hopes of the voters, and will closely observe the activity of the Council and of the Mayor General, will offer alternative solutions for the problems of Chisinau, will sanction the errors committed in the municipality and will inform the voters about them. On the other hand, Mayor General of the municipality of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said he understands the standpoint of the PCRM, but it is hard to understand why it accepts constructive opposition in the Parliament and suggested them that it is the moment to think about another type of dialogue with the political parties. “We will all face difficulties, and the citizens will sanction the sabotage. Let us not make comments on this issue and concentrate, so that we all achieve good results”. The representatives of other political parties in the Council expressed their support for a close cooperation in order to solve the problems of the municipality of Chisinau. Of those 51 municipal councillors, the communist faction has 16 seats as compared with 25 held previously.
