Chisinau City Hall about cancellation of cleanup tax: a flagrant violation of law

What happened at the January 28 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council represents manipulation of public opinion and a political action on the part of the PAS and PSRM councilors. This is the reaction of the Chisinau City Hall to the decision to cancel the cleanup tax, which was approved by the councilors of the two parties, IPN reports.

"The City Hall will act in strict compliance with the legal framework in order to clarify yesterday's actions at the CMC meeting of municipal councilors and representatives of the State Chancellery, who flagrantly violated the legislation in the process of adopting local normative documents," reads the press release issued by the City Hall.

According to the municipality, the decision "on the approval and implementation of local taxes for 2025" now has the status of "document in force", according to the State Register of Local Acts.

The Chisinau City Hall said it will request that "the law enforcement bodies investigate these flagrant violations, and the persons responsible be held accountable for their illegal actions."

The cleanup tax 120 lei paid annually in the municipality of Chisinau was canceled by the votes of 26 councilors. Zinaida Popa, the head of the PAS group on the CMC, said that the cleanup tax was canceled because the people did not know what they were paying for. The Socialist councilors also said that this tax became a burden for the residents of Chisinau.

The cleanup tax had been applied since 2021.
