The Moldovan authorities call upon Tiraspol to abandon the idea of suspending the work of vehicle registration units operating on the left side of the Nistru. The Reintegration Policies Bureau came with such a reaction after Tiraspol announced its intention to close the vehicle registration units on a temporary basis as from December 29, IPN reports.
The Reintegration Policies Bureau calls on Tiraspol to return to a constructive dialogue and to avoid unilateral measures that can affect the rights of the inhabitants of the region.
The institution noted the problem was generated by Tiraspol’s decision to allow issuing neutral-design license plates only together with plates that contain unauthorized symbols. But the importation of this category of license plates runs counter to the national legislation and the international commitments undertaken by the Republic of Moldova.
The Bureau said the customs bodies of the Republic of Moldova on December 22, during customs control at the Căușeni customs post, stopped a lot of neutral-design license plates and an additional lot of plates with unrecognized Transnistrian symbols from being taken into Moldova. These were transported to Moldova by a company operating in the Transnistrians region by the same unit of transport.
The responsible authorities of the Republic of Moldova interact directly with representatives of the given company. This was informed that there are no obstacles to obtaining authorization for introducing neutral-design license plates, in accordance with the existing normative framework.
Tiraspol argued it will close up the vehicle registration units on the left side of the Nistru because the Moldovan authorities for a week have banned access to freight transport to the Transnistrian region, either with neutral-design license plates or with Transnistrian license numbers.
