The Chisinau waste collection company requests the local authorities to increase pricing for waste disposal. “Autosalubritate” Company director Tudor Maniv told the City Hall meeting on July 2 that there is an urgent need to increase the tariff as fuel prices soared up, as well as the volume of the waste in the municipality of Chisinau. According to him, the present tariff of MDL 2.8 per person was set in 1986 when the management was transporting only 1 cubic metre of waste per person. At present, the volume of waste per person constitutes 2.5 – 2.9 cubic metres, which forces the waste collection vehicles to collect refuse three times a week from one location instead of two times as it was done 10 years ago. At the same time, at the moment when the tariff was set, one litre of diesel oil could be purchased for MDL 5, at present the price of fuel is MDL 12. Tudor Maniv says that the present tariff in Chisinau is not at all fair, as in Balti the same services are charged at MDL 4.2 per person. At present, “Autosalubritate” company has not finished yet the estimations for the real tariff for waste collection, but intends to request the Chisinau Municipal Council to increase it in the near future. About 3.6 thousand tonnes of waste are disposed of daily from the municipality of Chisinau with 102 garbage trucks.
