Chisinau could become a preferred destination for those who enjoy urban tourism and city breaks, believe the municipal authorities, who are determined to develop a strategy to transform the city into a “tourist capital”. The first round of discussions on the strategy took place today, IPN reports.
The strategy will cover the period from 2022 to 2027. “It is important to find our own niche for sustainable development by exploiting what we have in terms of tourism potential, natural or man-made”, said Mayor Ion Ceban.
The mayor added that there are initiatives from tourist associations or unions to promote our city nationally and internationally. But these unions need a well-written strategy to guide them.
A variety of activities are in place to promote Chisinau as a tourist destination. “We also launched a unique project, called ‘The Tourist Trolleybus’, which has proved to be successful. Several landmark buildings in the municipality have recently been or are currently being rehabilitated and are additionally lit at night. We are working hard on the rehabilitation of parks and fountains and we will continue to improve the city’s infrastructure, for both the inhabitants and guests of the capital”, pointed out Ion Ceban.
In autumn, Chisinau will host an Economic Forum, which expected to increase foreign investors’ interest in Chisinau. “It is important that, by taking stock of development possibilities, we will be able to propose activities that will help to increase the number of visitors and that will put Chisinau on the map of important places to visit in Moldova,” added the mayor.
