The Office for Reintegration Policy has asked Tiraspol to scrap plans of introducing a levy on all heavy good vehicles (HGV) from 18 tonnes and over that are not registered in the region. The levy is to be introduced from next January.
The Bureau described the proposed measure as “illegal” and “abusive”, and “creating artificial barriers to free movement”. It also noted that the intention is “a continuation of the series of provocations deliberately caused by Tiraspol, which started demanding illegal fees from drivers of vehicles registered in the Republic of Moldova when passing through the region”. Such unilaterally imposed fees include the vignette and compulsory civil liability insurance, among others,
The Bureau added that the competent authorities have been informed about the situation so that appropriate measures could be taken.
