Chisinau Arena: What services it offers, how much money was invested and what profit multifunctional complex brings

The Chisinau Arima is a sports and entertainment complex in Moldova, which occupies an area of over 10 hectares. Only at a single event held at the Arena, the big hall can accommodate around 5,050 people. Sergiu Stanciu, administrator of the Chisinau Arena, told about the amounts invested in this project, the partners and services offered by the Chisinau Arena at a discussion club with the media, staged on the initiative of the Economic Press Club, IPN reports.



Asked if the Chisinau Arena could host an international music contest, such as Eurovision, the administrator of the complex said that this is possible. "I don't know what requirements the Eurovision organizers have, but if the Arena meets them, it will certainly be a suitable place for a Eurovision edition," Sergiu Stanciu answered for IPN.

How much was invested in the construction of the Chisinau Arena?

The project involved an initial investment of €43 million euros, planned in 2017. Later, the investments were increased by another €2.5 million The investments were made by a partner from Turkey. Annually, the state pays a rate of about €3.1 million to its Turkish partner, for the period between 2018 and 2030.

So far, the Chisinau Arena has not yielded profit. The results for 2023 show that, by operational activities, the complex was 9 million lei in deficit, and in 2024 the deficit was 3 million lei.

An income of 5 million lei is projected for 2025. However, the administrator of the Arena said that profits by such a facility can be generated after at least 10 years of operation, after all the costs incurred in the construction of the complex are covered.

What services does the multifunctional complex offer?

The Chisinau Arena offers its customers a big hall and a small hall for events, with the possibility of adapting the hall for a concert or for a sports championship. The complex includes an Aqua Center with a space for children, as well as a pool that meets all Olympic standards, where swimming competitions can be held.





The Arena also incorporates an ice rink, an amphitheater for outdoor concerts, a fitness room, a tennis court and a parking lot with over 1,000 places. Furthermore, the building is equipped with VIP rooms, conference room, locker rooms, wardrobe, training room for athletes and "food court", the spaces being adapted to people with special needs.

What events are organized at the Chisinau Arena?

Sergiu Stanciu said that last year the Arena hosted over 250 events. 54% of them were sports events, the rest - 46% - concerts and cultural events.

Despite the diversity of services, the maximum exploitation potential of the Arena has not yet been reached. It was only 65% realized. The administration's forecasts show that the 100% objective will be achieved in 2028-2029.

How much does it cost to rent spaces at the Chisinau Arena?

The organization of a concert at the Chisinau Arena does not fall within the responsibilities of the administration. The Arena is used as a platform for events by the company that organizes them. Thus, the administration of the Arena only leases out the available spaces, according to the contracts signed with clients.

Rentals for the big concert arena are different and are set according to the size of the event and the client's requirements. For example, the zero platform of the big arena, which includes general access to the hall, can be rented for €3,500-€4,500. The rent for the entire hall is around €6,500, plus all the expenses related to the event.

The conference room and the VIP lounge are also available for rent, with prices of several thousand lei per hour, which vary depending on the services included.

The Chisinau Arena is a financially self-managed state institution attached to the Public Property Agency. The purpose of this complex is not to become an economic facility, but to promote state policies in relation to sports activities and a healthy lifestyle, national sports championships, and also to host international competitions. The Arena is a suitable platform for promoting culture, hosting exhibitions, concerts and other cultural events.
