Chisinau Airport works as usual

The Chisinau International Airport returned to its normal schedule, with the arrivals terminal being made available, IPN reports.

The Border Police said the alert level was raised at the Airport in order to ensure security and public order.

After the armed attack of the evening of June 30, in which two persons died and another one was hurt, all the emergency services were mobilized. Until the procedural measures taken by the law enforcement agencies were completed, the Airport worked under a special regime. Departures were possible through the Departures Hall, while arrivals – through the Official Delegations Hall and the Express Hall.

The attacker is from Tajikistan. He is suspected of forming part of a criminal group that in the evening of June 23 kidnapped the first vice president of a bank in Dushanbe. He came to Moldova through Turkey for reaching later the European Union. He was banned entry into Moldova. When being accompanied to the sterile area for being sent back, the man grabbed the gun of a border police officer and killed two people, wounding the third. 31-year-old border police officer Sergei Muntean died. The victim served as deputy chief agent and had worked for the Border Police since 2011. The second victim is aviation security officer Igor Ciofu aged 40. No details were made public about the injured passenger. The attacker was caught, being wounded during the siege and is now under medical care.
