The Chisinau City Hall began the search for the fir tree that will be set up in Chisinau for the winter holidays. The Christmas tree will not be yet placed in the Great National Assembly Square given that there are protesters’ tents there, IPN reports.

“It’s December 1 soon and we must look for the tree. We invite those who have appropriate fir trees to submit bids,” Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said in the weekly meeting held at the City Hall.

The place where the Christmas tree will be set up wasn’t yet chosen. “If the central square of Chisinau is free, we will set it up there. If not, we will identify another place so as not to come into conflict with the protesters,” stated the mayor.

Dorin Chirtoaca suggested that the fir tree should be placed in front of the Opera House, in the Square of the Cathedral or even in front of the Chisinau City Hall.

Officials of the Green Areas Association said a number of trees were identified and, when the place where the Christmas tree will be set up is chosen, they will open negotiations with the owners.

The fir tree is to be inaugurated on December 1. The holiday lighting will be switched on simultaneously.
