The National Theater "Mihai Eminescu" in Chisinau presents an exceptional event for the end of this year: the premiere of "Chirita in concert", directed by Ada Milea. Inspired by the operas of Vasile Alecsandri and Matei Millo, the show promises to be a unique mix of humor, satire and music, transposed in a modern approach, IPN reports.
The director of the National Theatre, Petru Hadarca, noted the excitement and effort put into the new project: "We dreamed of this show for three years. We tried to bring Ada Milea to Chisinau. The dream has come true. It is a special premiere, with ten exceptional actors, live music and spectacular scenography. The show connects the literary past with the cultural present", said Hadarca.
Ada Milea, director and composer, brings to the stage an innovative reinterpretation of Chirita, which sings, improvises and reflects on the modern world. "It is a Chirita sung from beginning to end, a story told through song and improvisation. Gulita, Chirita's son, organizes this show for his mother, trying to repair the distorted image of Alecsandri", explained Ada Milea.
The show has a satirical dimension, highlighting contemporary social issues through the prism of the characters of the Barzoi family. "The audience will discover how seemingly nice people can do a lot of harm without realizing it. It is a story for all ages, and each spectator will go home with their own reflections and emotions", the director added.
The production "Chirita in concert" brings together an impressive team: set design by Iurie Matei, costumes by Stela Verebceanu, sound design by Vlad Adajuc and Victor Panfilov. The actors of the Mihai Eminescu National Theater, including Angela Ciobanu, Anatol Durbală and Ghenadie Galca, contribute memorable and energetic performances.
"Performing Guliță was a challenge. Traditionally, this character is seen as a naive, sometimes caricatured child. We avoided clichés - we didn't try to portray him as a typical child, but also explored dramatic dimensions of the character. Although Gulita is seen as a dork, he genuinely loves two women: his mother and Luluța. Even if Luluta pretends to be crazy, Gulita doesn't know it and loves her unconditionally", confessed Anatol Durbala.
"I think every audience member will find something of value in this show, regardless of age. We have characters for all tastes: Juliet, an energetic and funny child, and Leonas, representative of youth. It's a show for all ages. The most difficult aspect is that the show is entirely musical. For an hour and 40 minutes, the actors sing live, without pauses", said Petru Oistric, the actor who plays Grigore Barzoi.
"In this show, we sing 25 songs, we only have a few spoken lines. We had to go back to the musical skills we had abandoned from our high school or music school years. Meeting Ada Milea was a dream come true, as I had admired her since my student days. This collaboration, made possible thanks to the Romanian Cultural Institute, is a celebration for us," Diana Decuseara, who plays Luluta, told us.
Actor Dan Melnic, in the role of Leonas, says he was fascinated by the creative process and rehearsals, this period being special for him. He is looking forward to "another stage, meeting the audience".
The show is scheduled to premiere on December 14 and 15, with further performances on December 26 and 27. Next year, the show will be presented in Romania, touring Iasi and Sibiu.
