The Supervisory Board of the Millennium Challenge Fund Moldova approved the initiation of the procedure for selecting a construction company that will rehabilitate the Chircani-Zarnesti irrigation system in Cahul district, which is situated on the bank of the Prut River, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Government, the renovated system will enable to irrigate about 4,500 hectares of farmland. This is the tenth irrigation system that will be rehabilitated with the funds of the U.S. Government’s Compact Program.
Currently, there are performed works on another nine irrigation systems. The construction works on two of them started. For another four irrigation systems, there were signed contracts with construction companies. For three irrigation systems, the contract with the wining company is being negotiated. The construction companies will complete the rehabilitation works by August 2015, when the Compact Program comes to an end.
The Compact Program has a budget of US$262 million.
