Chinese New Year celebrated by children and teachers from Chisinau

The Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, was marked at the national children's library "Ion Creanga". Dozens of students from Chisinau and teachers from the Confucius Institute participated in cultural and educational activities inspired by Chinese tradition, IPN reports.

The event, organized with the support of the Embassy of China and the Confucius Institute in Chisinau, included creative workshops, thematic exhibitions and artistic demonstrations aimed at familiarizing participants with the customs specific to this holiday, with a history of over 4000 years.

Library director Eugenia Bejan underlined the importance of the event, which has been taking place for two decades: "Our library has been organizing such events to mark the holiday for more than 20 years, since the Chinese Embassy opened in the Republic of Moldova".

In his turn, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova, Yan Wenbin, congratulated the participants and expressed his appreciation for the long-standing cooperation between the embassy and the library: "In China, we celebrate New Year for at least two weeks, even a month, so we are still in a festive mood. This year is the year of the snake, the symbol of wisdom and vitality, and I wish you more knowledge and success".

One of the highlights of the event was an exhibition of books entitled "Books are pure gold", inspired by a Chinese proverb, as well as an exhibition of traditional Chinese objects where visitors could buy souvenirs.

The Director of the Confucius Institute in Chisinau, Wang Yifeng, emphasized the importance of these cultural exchanges: "Since I came to Moldova in 2015, we have participated in this activity every year. The spring celebration in Moldova is coming soon, so I wish you a happy new year".

The event was accompanied by artistic moments, including performances on traditional Chinese musical instruments, readings on Chinese culture and calligraphy demonstrations. Participants also had the opportunity to take part in practical workshops on tea making and Chinese knot-weaving.
