China provides grant of over US$8m to Moldova

The Government of the People’s Republic of China offers Moldova a grant of 50 million yuan, which is equal to over US$8 million. On July 10, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and Chinese Ambassador Tong Mingtao signed an agreement on economic and technical cooperation between Moldova and China, IPN reports.

The Premier said that the money will be used to finance projects, but priority will be given to projects with a social purpose. Iurie Leanca specified that so far China provided non-reimbursable assistance of US$37 million.

China’s Ambassador to Moldova Tong Mingtao said the grant is offered with a view to stimulating Moldova’s economic development and to alleviating the consequences of the natural disasters. He voiced hope that the money will contribute to improving the situation in Moldova and to creating new jobs.

The two officials also signed a document on the donation/receipt of a set of 1,200 computers and 220 printers intended for dormitories. The Chinese diplomat said this donation is made with the aim of improving the learning conditions of students and of increasing the education level in Moldova.
