The children of the Republic of Moldova could render sick because of the toxic dye used in the production of foreign toys, imported massively to the country. This is a conclusion formulated by local and foreign experts, which stress upon the low qualitative-educational level of the foreign toys sold in markets and booths. According to the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova, in the first 5 months of 2006, toys amounting to 12 million 235 thousand lei were imported, which is more comparing to the similar period of the last year. The majority of toys are imported from China, followed by Germany and Russia. The head of the Certification Management of the Standardization and Metrology Department, declared Pavel Lupan for Info-Prim Neo that every product imported in Moldova must be certified, first of all, by the National Scientific-Practical Center of Preventive Medicine (NSPCPM) and by the employees of the management he heads. According to the quoted source, the standardization specialists are obliged to examine the quality of the toys from the security point of view. According to Lupan, big amounts of toys sold in markets, booths do not have sanitary certificates, or other documents and recommended to purchase toys only from authorized commercial units. Asked by Info-Prim Neo, Stefan Constantinovici the person responsible for testing toys within the toxicology section of the National Scientifc-Practical Centre of Preventive Medicine declared that he does not know the state of being in this area, and the head of (NSPCPM), Ion Bahanel, solicited several days in order to formulate the information. The international Organization Green Peace fights already for many years to stop the commercialization of plastic toys, at least those destined to the children under 3 years old. Recently, in Celebabinsk town of Russia thousands of hermaphrodite-dolls and toys, which emanate noxious substances, were destroyed. The chemical tests of the materials used at manufacturing toys, made in Romania emphasize upon harmful substances. According to the tests, Pokemons, Star Warriors, dinosaurs, Jedi’s swords, plastic trumpets etc were manufactured with surplus of lead, mercury, antimony, barium, titanium, chrome, and other elements which can cause different diseases.
