A child aged two underwent several surgeries and is now receiving treatment in the intensive care section. The boy suffered serious injuries when he was crushed under an iron door. His state is serious, but with positive dynamics.
Neurosurgeon Anatolie Crihan, of the Municipal Clinical Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco”, has told IPN that the boy was brought to the hospital in a very serious state, with skull fracture and a leg fracture. The doctors are optimistic about his chances of survival, but say that the rehabilitation will be long lasting.
Specialists say the nonstop supervision of children is the main method of preventing accidents. The grownups must remove the objects that pose a threat to children and fix all the heavy objects as there were cases when children were killed when they were crushed by stoves, cupboards or TV sets. It is the duty of every parent to make sure that the home is danger-free for their kids.
According to the Ministry of Health, the traumas and scalds are the major causes of death among children younger than five. In 2014, 43 children of such an age died because of traumas, poisonings or scalds.
During six years, the REPEMOL (Regionalization of Emergency and Intensive Care Pediatric Services in Moldova) project, in partnership with the authorities, informed the parents about measures to prevent domestic accidents involving children younger than five within the campaign “A danger-free home for your child!” Information about how to protect the child in different situations is also available at www.parinti.md.
